History of the war between Israel and Palestine since 1900

Echoes of Conflict: Israel and Palestine Through Decades of Conflict

In the documents of human history, few conflicts have endured with the fervor and complexity of the Israel-Palestine dispute. Born from the aspirations of the Zionist movement in the early 20th century, it clashed headlong with the rooted identity of Palestinian Arabs, setting the stage for a protracted struggle.

As the 1940s unfolded, the United Nations wielded its influence, carving Palestine into two states – one Jewish, the other Arab. This decree ignited the powder keg, birthing the 1948 Arab-Israeli War that reverberated through generations, displacing countless Palestinians from their ancestral homes.

The Unyielding March of Time

From those tumultuous beginnings, a somber narrative of wars and skirmishes unfolded, etching scars into the landscape.

In 1967, the Six-Day War saw Israel seize the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem, reshaping the geopolitical map.

The Yom Kippur War of 1973 marked another chapter of confrontation, as Israel and Syria locked horns in a clash of ideologies.

In 1982, the Lebanese landscape bore witness to Israel's incursion, a bid to dismantle the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).

In the late 1980s, the First Intifada erupted, a testament to Palestinian resilience against the occupying force. The Oslo Accords of 1993 offered a glimmer of hope, birthing the Palestinian Authority (PA), a nascent body poised for self-governance.

Stifled Hopes and Rekindled Flames

Yet, the dawn of the new millennium ushered in the Second Intifada, an impassioned cry against occupation, echoing through the hills and alleys of a troubled land.

2006 bore witness to a fierce engagement in Lebanon, sparked by Hezbollah's rockets, underscoring the enduring volatility of the region.

In 2008, the thunder of war rumbled again, this time against Gaza's shores, leaving over 1,400 souls in its wake.

In 2012, the targeted assassination of Hamas leader Ahmed Jabari ignited fresh fires in Gaza, stoking the embers of conflict.

Then, 2014 witnessed a protracted 51-day war against Gaza, painting a harrowing tableau of over 2,200 lives lost.

In the latter part of the decade, the Great March of Return took center stage, a poignant series of protests against the blockade choking Gaza's lifelines. The year 2021, etched into memory, bore witness to an 11-day barrage against Gaza, casting a stark shadow over the region, claiming over 250 lives.

In the heart of this intricate struggle lies a call for justice, an appeal to recognize the illegality of occupation under international law. The mantle of responsibility rests not only on the shoulders of the Israeli government, but extends to the global community, beckoning them to hold Israel accountable for its actions.

As history unfurls, it is imperative to seek a path toward a just and enduring peace, weaving together the threads of hope and resolution that have been tested but never broken in the tapestry of Israel and Palestine.
